Our story

Originally from Scotland (or Alba in Gaelic), we have been living and working in South Korea, Vietnam and Hong Kong since 2005. We first visited Sri Lanka for a holiday in April 2015 without any real expectations when we travelled through Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Yala and finally to Galle where we spent our last week. As you will find when you visit, Sri Lanka and it’s people have a way of welcoming you like nowhere else, and this genuine warmth and passion for their beautiful country really drew us in from this very first trip.

Before long we had decided that it was the place to build a home to share holidays with friends and family and tourists so were back scouting for land with real estate agents. In 2018 we finally fell in love with this paddy peninsula where Villa Alba now stands. We quickly found Gayan and the team from Tectonic architects who designed and then subsequently project managed the build in partnership with the great team at Crystal Construction.

Carefully taking into consideration our vision for sleek contemporary design in harmony with the natural surroundings of the area, Villa Alba took shape over the space of three and a half years. Between breaking ground and the completed villa we weren’t able to visit because of the pandemic which was certainly nerve wracking at times, but the end result has really exceeded our expectations. 

Although we may someday end up here, for now we want as many people as possible to enjoy Villa Alba and wonderful Sri Lanka as both have something truly unique to offer.
